Frequently Asked Questions

What would I expect therapy to be like?

My focus in our first session is build trust and understanding so you feel safe in opening up. I recognize that our relationship is the most important part of therapy and strive to create an affirming space for you. I am curious to learn more about you, what led you to seek out therapy now, and what is important for you to set goals around.

In the following sessions, I will ask questions about your history to explore how the past may be impacting your present. Together, we will create a goal plan to ground our work together and celebrate your progress. Throughout our sessions, I will strive to equip you with resources, tools, and insights.

What steps would I take before my first scheduled appointment?

  •  If you plan on using insurance, please contact your insurance company to understand your benefits including any deductibles, co-pay, or co-insurance amounts.
  • You will be provided online paperwork to complete prior to our first session that includes explanations of confidentiality and its limits, your rights as a client, and my office policies.
  • Feel free to write down thoughts of what you would like to talk about in our first session and to take notes during the session.

For telehealth sessions:

  • Try to find a private space to have designated for your therapy sessions where you can be alone and not interrupted.
  • Test our your technology to ensure you have stable internet access, a working camera, and are comfortable with using the volume.
  • Log on to the video appointments a few minutes early to give yourself some time to breathe and feel ready.
  • Have my contact information available (773-231-7613 and catilin@catcounseling.com) in case you need technical support.

What are your typical fees?

My rate is $150/session. Cancellation fees are the total cost of a session if there is less than 24 hours notice or no show appointments. If you do not plan on using insurance and paying privately, you will be provided a Good Faith Estimate on your estimated cost of services for 12 months.

Do you take insurance?

Yes, I am currently only paneled with BCBS PPO. I can provide you with receipts if you are seeking to use your out-of-network insurance benefits.

Do you offer sliding scale options?

I have limited openings for sliding scale fees with priority for LGBTQIA and BIPOC folx. Connect with me and we can discuss details.

Are you offering teletherapy?
